Harris Eisenstadt

Harris Eisenstadt Since moving to to Brooklyn from Los Angeles in 2006, drummer/composer Harris Eisenstadt (b. Toronto, 1975) has been consistently singled out in the New York Times as a “venturesome drummer” and All Music Guide has described his compositions as “Ellingtonian in scope… breath(ing) fresh life into the small ensemble.” He has taught percussion, composition, improvisation, jazz, rock, classical and world music since 1998. He received his BA cum laude from Colby College (98) and completed his MFA at the California Institute of the Arts in the Performer/Composer program (01). He currently works as a teaching artist for Carnegie Hall, the Brooklyn Conservatory, Manhattan New Music Project, and The Teak Fellowship. His bands Canada Day and Guewel record for the Portuguese label Clean Feed. Other current projects include co-led trios with Achim Kaufmann and Mark Dresser (Nuscope), Jeb Bishop and Jason Roebke (Nottwo), and Saris (duo with Sara Schoenbeck), in addition to numerous collaborations with many wonderful artists. Eisenstadt has received grants and commissions from American Composers Forum, Durfee Foundation, Meet the Composer, and SOCAN, performed throughout the US and Canada, in Australia, Europe, Japan and West Africa, and appeared on about 40 recordings.
