Arts in Education

Manhattan New Music Project collaborates with schools to create customized partnerships. Since 1993, we have partnered with over 100 New York City schools across all five boroughs to foster original student creation that complements school curriculum and supports learning. We provide in-school and out-of-school programming and professional development in music, dance, theater, visual arts, creative writing, and film. Our programs emphasize skills-based, hands-on learning and are custom designed to engage students and educators in the creative process.

Through five multi-year grants from the U.S. Department of Education (three in partnership with District 75), MNMP has created educational models for students with learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral disabilities, mental retardation, multiple disabilities, and autism spectrum disorders. We recognize that the arts provide a unique entry point for learning; this can be particulary effective for students with special needs, who may struggle with more conventional academic strategies.
